This is fast becoming one of Burgundy’s most sought-after wines. The vineyard was planted in 1920, and you can feel the power of the old vines in the glass. It is intense and opulent, with plenty of spice on the nose. The palate is impeccably balanced, with vibrant acidity alongside an impressive mouthfeel. This is powerful, yet retains poise and elegance. It deserves plenty of time in the bottle.
The vines were planted in 1920. A fine even purple. This has a glorious aromatic quality, floral in excelsis, seductively thrilling, with an ease of access which belies just how well this is constructed. Brilliantly nuanced and entirely seamless with a long lush yet mineral finish. Drink from 2032-2040+. Tasted: November 2023. 5 stars.
The 2022 Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru has a perfumed bouquet with rose bush-infused red fruit, orange rind, forest floor, and light pencil box aromas. The medium-bodied palate is very tensile and poised with fine-boned tannins, gaining weight towards the finish that exerts a gentle grip. It's the one cuvée I feel will benefit from as long an élevage as possible (within reason). Great potential.
