Tasting notes

The 2022 Chambolle-Musigny Les Feusselottes 1er Cru has a more backward bouquet: blacker fruit than the Nuits Saint-Georges, a light oyster shell influence coming through with time. The medium-bodied palate has rounded tannins, fleshy and sumptuous as Chambolle should be, but the acidic spine keeps this fresh and tensile. There is dark berry fruit, allspice and licorice towards the finish that lingers in the mouth. I would afford this Chambolle 4-5 years in bottle.

The Feusselottes was replanted in the 1970s and always gives a big crop, so strict debudding and green harvesting are necessary. The figures are 49 hl/ha and 13.8% alcohol in 2022. A vivid fresh purple. On the cusp, of raspberry and strawberry, a solid pleasant ripe mouthful, with good acidity, though not quite the riotous joy of Chaignots. Vanilla appears behind with slightly acidulated red fruit. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted: November 2023.
