2022 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru, Domaine Bruno Clair

2022 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru, Domaine Bruno Clair

This is a Bonnes Mares of distinction: it is the only part of the vineyard to fall within Morey-Saint-Denis (the rest is in Chambolle-Musigny). It is muscular, yet tender, with a deep and concentrated core. There is an unbelievable length on display here, with a finish that fans out across the palate.

Tasting notes

There are 25 barrels of 2022 Bonnes Mares, an ideal yield of 35 hl/ha. Rich, bright and concentrated. Super explosive right from the start. Wears its heart on its sleeve unlike the more introverted Clos de Bèze. A magical concentration of fruit, first at the front of the palate and then at the back. A little spice as well, something of everything. Generous but not over the top at 13.5%. Drink from 2032-2040+. Tasted: November 2023. 5 stars.

The 2022 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru has a delightful, charming bouquet with a mixture of blackberry and blueberry fruit, pressed violets and iris flowers, and wonderful mineralité. The medium-bodied palate has grainy tannins. It’s very saline in the mouth, with a hint of licorice in the background. Very elegant and stylish, this lovely Bonnes-Mares has a long future ahead. Sublime.
