2019 Vosne-Romanée, Les Quartiers de Nuits, Domaine de Bellene

2019 Vosne-Romanée, Les Quartiers de Nuits, Domaine de Bellene

These vines were planted in 1927, and lie just under Echézeaux and next to Clos de Vougeot and a stone’s throw from Suchots, which is pretty unbelievable positioning for a village parcel. This is, as always, intense and structured, with beautiful, dark energy, and muscular but svelte tannins.

Domaine de Bellene & Roche de Bellene

Both Domaine de Bellene and Maison Roche de Bellene are owned by Nicolas Potel. His huge experience, gained through stints at Georges Roumier in Burgundy, Moss Wood in Australia and Tom Dehlinger in California makes him one of the most knowledgeable winemakers in the region. He worked with his father at Domaine de la Pousse d’Or, before setting up his own successful négociant operation, Nicolas Potel. He sold it (along with the commercial rights to his name), and set up Domaine de Bellene in 2005, buying up old-vine plots in some of the region’s top premier cru and villages vineyards.

He now has 22 hectares of vines (many of which are over 50 years old) across the Côte d’Or including Beaune, Savigny and Volnay, with recent acquisitions in Vosne-Romanée and Nuits-St-Georges and forays into St-Romain. In 2008 he set up his négociant operation, Maison Roche de Bellene, which offers a comprehensive range of Burgundy from villages Bourgogne to exclusive terroirs. Its headquarters are in the heart of the Côte de Beaune, with a modern winemaking facility, warehousing and storage. The ethos behind the wines is simple - to offer a comprehensive range of Burgundys that have been carefully selected to show the best of their terroir and vintage.
