2019 Santenay Clos des Hâtes, Hubert Lamy

It is well-worth following Olivier’s reds, particularly in recent vintages. The 2019 might just be the finest yet. Frost, high density planting, and organic farming mean low yields were reached, and this wine has manifest concentration. 70% whole bunch in the tank adds juicy spice, but underneath, this is clearly a wine of powerful and precise dimensions. The vineyard had previously been owned by M. Duvault-Blochet, former owner of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti.

2019 Santenay Clos des Hâtes, Hubert Lamy
Domaine Hubert Lamy

Olivier Lamy returned to the family domaine in 1995 to work with his father, but the history of this St Aubin estate goes back even further, to 1640. In our Autumn 1990 price list we were already calling their Frionnes ‘a real favourite.’ With Olivier’s willingness to experiment, the estate has risen to a new level. His wines are always some of the purest expressions of Chardonnay in Burgundy.
