2019 Corton-Bressandes Grand Cru, Chandon de Briailles

Always one of our favourite wines here, the Bressandes is always the most fleshy and appealing of their Cortons. The thin topsoil is very stony, with gravel over limestone. It always has a dark berry character, with some wild herbs in the background.

TASTING NOTES

The 2019 Corton-Bressandes Grand Cru is deeper in color compared with the Les Maréchaudes. The well-defined bouquet features cranberry and wild strawberry scents intermixed with wilted rose petal and sous-bois, delicate yet paradoxically intense. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, and fleshier than the Maréchaudes; the stem addition here seems more enmeshed. Just beautiful.

Domaine Chandon de Briailles

This beautiful house constructed between 1690 and 1705 has been home to the de Nicolay family since 1834. Current incumbent Claude, frequently flanked by her lovely dogs (one adorably called Darling!), creates elegant wines from appellations sometimes known for their more bucolic styles. Farmed biodynamically since 2005, this is a set of wines that punch well above their weight.
