2017 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Chênes, Michel Lafarge

The first vineyard owned by the Lafarge family, and arguably their most famous wine, the 2017 is profound. Elegant and silky, with a fine thread of acidity, and a finish that lasts for minutes.

2017 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Chênes, Michel Lafarge
Domaine Michel Lafarge

Stepping into the Lafarge cellar in central Volnay is an experience, and how one might imagine a Burgundy cellar should be. In this veritable trove, blanketed in life-giving mould, are born some of Burgundy’s greatest wonders. The wines crafted by Frédéric, his daughter and his father Michel, now in his 80s, boast an unbeatable ability to age, even for Pinot Noir. It’s no wonder that he, alongside D’Angerville and de Montille, helped put Volnay on the map.
