2017 Volnay 1er Cru Clos du Château des Ducs, Michel Lafarge

A monopole of the Lafarge family - the 0.57 hectares are entirely under their ownership, produced as an individual wine since 1985. Sensuous and finessed, with fruit-coated tannins, and such a sense of terroir. One of Burgundy’s greats from one of Burgundy’s greats.

2017 Volnay 1er Cru Clos du Château des Ducs, Michel Lafarge
Domaine Michel Lafarge

Stepping into the Lafarge cellar in central Volnay is an experience, and how one might imagine a Burgundy cellar should be. In this veritable trove, blanketed in life-giving mould, are born some of Burgundy’s greatest wonders. The wines crafted by Frédéric, his daughter and his father Michel, now in his 80s, boast an unbeatable ability to age, even for Pinot Noir. It’s no wonder that he, alongside D’Angerville and de Montille, helped put Volnay on the map.
