2012 Vosne-Romanée, Jean Grivot

Over the past 15 years or so, Etienne Grivot has been developing the purity of fruit in his wines’ style, and it is plain to see with his 2012 villages Vosne-Romanée. Precise, intense yet lifted raspberry fruit leads on the nose and on the palate. There is a distinct saline edge to the finish that brings some complexity. This is an excellent example of a top producer’s “calling card” in this most sought-after village in the Côte de Nuits.

2012 Vosne-Romanée, Jean Grivot
Domaine Jean Grivot

Patriarch Jean Grivot passed on the domaine to his son, Etienne, in 1987, who is now passing the torch on to his daughter Mathilde. With densely planted old vines, tended organically, yields are low and complexity high. As the grapes pass through Etienne and Mathilde’s cellar, her lightness of touch builds on the trend of this superb address towards purity and refinement, without losing any of the tell-tale structure. At this benchmark Burgundy domaine, Grivot’s wines remain impressive.
