2010 Chambertin Grand Cru, Armand Rousseau
The hallmarks of domaine, vintage and cru are very much in evidence in what will no doubt turn out to be one of the greatest wines made by Rousseau for many years. Whilst the nose is compact and closed, the palate is explosively full and multilayered, with notes of wild lavender, ripe cherries and exotic spice, threaded together with seam of cool minerality. The tannins envelop and coat every corner of the mouth yet, despite the taut muscular structure, there is an underlying suppleness and an overall impression of completeness. As close to perfection as Burgundy gets.
