Of all the Côte-de-Nuits Grands Crus, the wines of Clos de
Vougeot are the most difficult to come to terms with. In the
region of 70 proprietors own land within the walls of the 50-
hectare vineyard whose history dates back to the 14th century.
With such a multitude of growers, Clos de Vougeot can be as
disappointing as it can be glorious and the style variations
between wines from the upper slopes and those adjacent to
the N74 (the main artery road of the Côte d'Or) challenge the
most experienced of tasters. Clearly Nicolas has selected his
grower skilfully for this Clos de Vougeot. This is a beautifully
harmonious, concentrated, multi-faceted wine.
