2005 Pommard 1er Cru Clos des Epeneaux, Comte Armand

2005 Pommard 1er Cru Clos des Epeneaux, Comte Armand

As is the norm, we tasted the component parts of what will assuredly be a
magnificent Clos des Epéneaux. Fruit from the young parcel (from 19 and 23
year- old vines) will be kept separate and sold as Pommard 1er Cru, whereas
wines from the three older parcels of 35, 50 and 75+ year vines will be
assembled in proportions decided by Benjamin and a small group of invited
fellow winemakers. Following tasting the three individual cuvées we tasted an
approximate final blend, a superbly generous, ample, compelling and multifaceted
beauty of a wine that is destined for stardom. The explosive fruitiness of
the 35-year vine cuvée, melds with the rich, brambly succulence of the wine
from 50-year vines and the structure and power offered by the old vines cuvée.
This will certainly prove to be a stunning wine.
