2007 Château d'Yquem, 1er Grand Cru Classé Sauternes

2007 is an excellent Sauternes vintage and Chateau d ’Yquem has made a wonderful wine. Only 55% of the crop was utilised from the 6 tries or staged pickings throughout the vineyards. The nose already offers up a very spicy botrytis - infused aroma with some floral notes. The palate is very rich and powerful yet not at all clumsy. Great extract with a pronounced streak of acidity.Very clean - lively yet focused. The palate exudes ripe exotic fruits with mango and pineapple to the fore but with apricot and marmalade nuances. Long and persistent. The finest d'Yquem since 2001?

2007 Château d'Yquem, 1er Grand Cru Classé Sauternes
Château d'Yquem

Château d’Yquem is generally considered the world’s greatest sweet wine. It defines its appellation, Sauternes, to the extent that it stands alone as the only “1er Cru Classé Supérieur” in Bordeaux. The Grand Vin is a blend of Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc affected by botrytis, known as noble rot. It ages for decades and is renowned for its elegance and complexity. This is now complemented by a fine dry white, Y d’Yquem, more than a match for the great wines of Graves.
