2003 Château Bastor-Lamontagne, Sauternes

2003 Château Bastor-Lamontagne, Sauternes

Not a classified growth but widely regarded as a contender for this honour. Soft golden colour and full of opulent acacia honeyed aromas. On the palate this wine balances the amazing richness and sweetness of the vintage with an appealing freshness. A forward drinking style producing a deliciously approachable sauternes.

Château Bastor-Lamontagne

Bastor-Lamontagne,/b> makes sweet, racy whites,,/b> worthy of a place in any cellar. The estate may be unclassified, but this does not impede its capability to create top-end < a href="/search?searchtext=sauternes">Sauternes. This quality-driven estate has a royal pedigree and a promising future. The château was a former royal castle dating back to at least 1453, when it was owned by the King of France who sold it to the La Montaigne family, who gave it its name. Today, the Helfrich family, owners of Les Grands Chais de France and Château du Tertre are in control and helping to take Bastor-Lamontagne to the next quality level. The estate has been certified organic since 2016, one of only three in the region, and the vineyard is composed of 30 plots in almost one single block. As with all great Sauternes, picking only happens when the grapes have achieved their optimum level of ripeness and botrytised rot takes place over several passes, or tries.
