The C des Carmes uses around 25% whole bunch this year, primarily from the Merlot component. The final blend is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% merlot and 2% Petit Verdot from gravelly soils around Martillac. This is a wine of beautifully defined aromatics with notes of lavander, wild herbs and fresh violets. There is a bright and expressive core of black cherry fruit but there is so much charm here. Silky and seamless with plenty of salinity and freshness this is a truly modern Bordeaux with the telltale signature of this esteemed address.
