Tasted April 2022. A mix of crunchy red fruit and silkier dark fruits on the nose and palate. The tannins are broad and firm at the moment and there's an earthy complexity on the palate. Freshness characteristic of the vintage shines through on the finish.
The 2021 Bourgneuf is a delicate, charming Pomerol. Crushed flowers, spice, red berry fruit and orange peel are all nicely lifted. This is an especially perfumed, mid-weight vintage for Bourgneuf, a wine that has been bigger in the recent past.
The 2021 Bourgneuf has turned out better than I anticipated, and one senses its proximity to Trotanoy more clearly than was the case from barrel. Exhibiting aromas of sweet berries, cherries and licorice, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and layered, with good depth at the core, framed by sweet structuring tannins. While it will offer plenty of near-term appeal, don't discount its capacity to age.
