2016 Domaine de Chevalier Rouge, Pessac-Léognan (2025 Ex-Château release)

2016 Domaine de Chevalier Rouge, Pessac-Léognan (2025 Ex-Château release)

A profound Domaine de Chevalier with notes of tobacco, sandalwood and a little cocoa dust that clothes the dark berry fruit with real nuance. The palate is thrilling and vibrant but also compact, with a tightly wound core of brambly fruit. There is both floral and mineral here too that develops with time in the glass. This is flows with real purpose on the palate, and while can be approached now has a long life ahead of it.

Tasting notes

Concentrated and luscious. Real life and savour on the (at the moment slightly inky) end. One of the most youthful samples I encountered. Dry sandpaper end but perhaps it's a more honest sample than most?

A dense and tight DC with minerals, crushed stones, cement and blackcurrants. Full, tight and racy. Gorgeous. Leaf and tobacco undertones. Very tannic. Tight. So structured. Complex.
