One of the very best performers in the whole region over the past 3 (difficult) years, Vieux Château Certan’s terroir has really been showing through, with superb quality fruit again in 2014. Subtly floral, elegantly aromatic on the nose, on the mid-palate there is a gorgeously juicy character – yet this is not frivolous, and it is a Pomerol with plenty of power and stuffing. The soft-edged texture hovers between silk and velvet, whilst the exceptionally long and mineral finish reveals layer upon layer of complex and gorgeous flavours. It isn’t a massive, big and brash finish, but rather lingers on for what seems like a wonderful eternity. In short, another fabulous Pomerol to come out of the VCC cellars.
