The deft hand of Denis Durantou is certainly in evidence here; his decision to employ machine harvesters to bring in select parcels at Les Cruzelles paid dividends – enabling him to bring in a healthy and clean crop escaping the vagaries of unwelcome botrytis that plagued many others. The assemblage consists of 90% Merlot – lending a plump, fleshy and generously fruited nature to the wine, with the remaining 10% Cabernet Franc providing a savoury richness and impressive structure. Elevage in 50% new oak contributes notes of spice and dark chocolate and the overall impression one is left with on the long finish is one of harmony and balance.
