François Mitjaville is a St-Emilion legend, best known for Le Tertre Roteboeuf. He does everything a bit differently, with lower trained vines, later picked grapes, and a more Burgundian approach to terroir than anyone else in Bordeaux. This is his other estate that always blows us away: drinking a bottle of this 2012 recently, we could have sworn it was double the price!
The palate is soft and sensual on the entry with layers of fleshy red berry fruit. The tannins have a Burgundy-like finesse and there is a lovely touch of Schezhuan pepper numbing the tip of the tongue on the finish. This will be a fascinating Roc de Combes – Neal Martin.
