Served blind at the Southwold 2009 tasting. This may well be one of my favourite wines from Jean-Luc Thunevin, and this Virginie has built upon the promise it showed in barrel. It has a very refined bouquet with raspberry, iodine and glycerine – all very composed and focused, the oak seamlessly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with a lot of oak on the entry, although it is in harmony with the fruit and it remains convincingly silky and pure on the finish. Sleek and modern, but very well crafted.
