2008 Château St-Pierre, Cru Classé St-Julien
Deep and bright in the glass. The aromas reveal intense sweet cassis with a touch of blackcurrant leaf. There is a fresh, fragrant note on both nose and palate. No lack of substance, there is a gently mouth-filling, fat quality to the black fruit, as well as notes of gravelly minerality. The purity and precision shown highlight the success of this Cabernet-dominant (87%) St.Julien. The silken tannins that seem to typify the vintage in the finer wines of the Médoc do much to lift this above its relatively humble status. An exemplary, streamlined St-Pierre. Robert Parker: 92-94
