A terrific Las Cases that is clearly one of the wines of the Left Bank vintage. Although analytical profiles are not the ‘be all and end all’ in determining quality, it is interesting to note regisseur Bruno Rolland comments that alcohol, acidity and tannin levels of the 2006 exceed those achieved in 2005, a fabulous wine in an extraordinary vintage. Very dark, almost opaque, Scents of cassis vie with floral notes. The palate is voluminous, the first impression is of power and strength, yet there is a seamless quality and extraordinary length in this Las Cases which is brimming with cassis, blueberry and Victoria plum flavours. Strength allied to elegance, power with finesse. Tasted blind, this would be more reminiscent of Pauillac than Saint-Julien. Fine quality from an estate with an impeccable track record.
