2006 Château Cheval-Blanc, 1er Grand Cru Classé (A) St-Emilion

2006 Château Cheval-Blanc, 1er Grand Cru Classé (A) St-Emilion

In a vintage where Merlot excelled on the right bank, Cheval Blanc has used a higher proportion than usual in the blend, producing a truly excellent wine. Using 55% Merlot and 45% Cabernet Franc in the blend, they have certainly capitalised on the vintage conditions. A highly appealing nose of dark, rich berry fruit, with an attractive herbaceous, almost minty lift. On the palate, there is a wealth of concentrated dark morello cherry, damson and plum fruit, and very fine well-integrated tannins. A freshening acidity and stone-fruit minerality provides backbone to the luscious fruit nature, creating a definite sense of poise and balance. There is a long, lingering finish of pure, fragrant fruit. An excellent Cheval Blanc. 2012 to 2022.
