2005 Château Batailley, Cru Classé Pauillac

2005 Château Batailley, Cru Classé Pauillac

An assemblage of 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc at around 39 hectolitres per hectare. Good depth of colour in the glass, in terms of aromas Batailley is much more giving than many pauillacs of this vintage, with sweet cassis and notes of ripe berry fruit. The palate shows a pleasing density, plenty of vibrant appeal. There is a more substantial accent to this vintage than one normally finds with Batailley. It remains nonetheless a well-proportioned, mid-weight pauillac with a deft touch. Surely one of the finest vintages for this property: ripe, attractive with the ability to age over the mid-term. Philippe Casteja considers this the finest Batailley in his tenureship of the property.
