2004 Château Léoville-Las-Cases, Cru Classé St-Julien
Only 34% of the harvest made it into the grand vin this year, ensuring that only the best fruit (76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc) was selected for this deep dark crimson coloured wine. Fragrant and elegant on the nose, rather tight just now but the mid palate is rich in concentrated juicy peppery black and red fruits. Fresh acidity, lively, linear, fine tannins lead to a long subtle finish. The 60% new oak is very well integrated and hidden by the density of the fruit.
