2004 Château Ducru-Beaucaillou, Cru Classé St-Julien

2004 Château Ducru-Beaucaillou, Cru Classé St-Julien

Quintessential st-julien, Ducru-Beaucaillou’s characteristics are of the most wonderful elegance and breeding. The 2004 is a masterclass in classic bordeaux – and in particular the lithe, sensuous, fine-grained sophistication of traditional claret. The 2004 vintage comprises 77% Cabernet Sauvignon and 23% Merlot. The late and greatly revered Jean-Eugène Borie once commented to me that he intended his legacy to the next generation to be that Ducru should have acquired a reputation for being one of the most elegant wines of the region. I think that he would have been very satisfied and proud of Bruno and Sabine’s glorious 2004 vintage. This is beautifully harmonious st-julien, a wine with a glossy sheen and poised refinement.
