2003 Château Margaux, 1er Cru Margaux

2003 Château Margaux, 1er Cru Margaux

Paul Pontallier’s confidence in this vintage is expressed by the fact that (as much as) 45% of the total production has gone into the grand vin. Yields at Margaux are approximately 20% down on last year coming in at a mere 30 hectolitres per hectare. This has created what he believes to be one of the most concentrated margaux of the last 25 years. The blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon and just 12% Merlot (the balance Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot) has produced an intense wine, full structured, which focuses on red and black fruits, a bold style for the estate, with a powerful but graceful finish. Very fine indeed.
