2002 Château Léoville-Poyferré, Cru Classé St-Julien

2002 Château Léoville-Poyferré, Cru Classé St-Julien

Perhaps the vintage that elevated Poyferré in many people’s eyes. The 2002 is a very complete style, exudes harmony with a velvet-like mouthfeel. The fruit characters here are of dark berry, blackcurrant, again with a deep-knit almost liquorice-like note. Very classy indeed, striking purity with impressive persistence. The tell-tale freshness of the vintage is here for all to see. Very fine, rich but not too dense, or concentrated. If Poyferré is missing from your cellar, it is worth asking why!
