2000 Château Angélus, 1er Grand Cru Classé St-Emilion

2000 Château Angélus, 1er Grand Cru Classé St-Emilion

It was Hubert du Boüard and Jean-Bernard Grenié of Angélus who first alerted us of the rare quality of the 2000 vintage. Jean-Bernard was still as enthusiastic in April and tasting the new Angélus it was easy to see the reason for excitement at the property. The 2000 is massive in colour and possesses a perfume of warm, spiced blackberries. The palate is dense and fat. A thick and chewy Angélus with bottomless flavours. Yet it is concentration rather than extraction which gives this wine its extraordinary substance and mouth-feel. Jean-Bernard commented, 'ten years ago we produced a big truck now we make a Rolls.
