Caronne Ste Gemme is a well-located Left Bank Cru Bourgeois which punches well above its weight and offers great value for money. It is made by François Nony, cousin of François-Xavier Borie at Grand-Puy-Lacoste and Bruno Borie at Ducru-Beaucaillou. It was the Borie family who acquired it in 1900, continuing to build on the estate's already excellent reputation. Although it is labelled a Haut-Médoc, the estate sits on the border of St-Julien and neighbours Second Growth Gruard-Larose. The vines, which are predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon plus Merlot and Petit Verdot, are planted on inclined soils very similar to the classed growth St-Juliens, with the much-coveted gravel towards the top of the slope.
