Vega Sicilia is to Spain what the First Growths are to France. Its story is well known - a Spanish winemaker trained in Bordeaux and returned to his homeland with a few vines to blend with the local Tempranillo. The flagship wine, Unico, marks the first time Bordeaux varieties were used in Ribera del Duero. They also produce a second wine, Valbuena 5°, so-called because it’s kept in the cellar for 5 years before release, and stablemates Pintia and Alion.
The wines of a leading Spanish producers, Vega Sicilia, have just been released, to considerable praise.
