The Reyneke Estate is a beautiful, serene place where farming and nature work in harmony. The story of Reyneke is not just one of enriching the land, it is one of enriching the lives of those who work it.

The son of a Cape Town University professor, Johan Reyneke was studying law when he fell in love with both philosophy and with environmental ethics; he worked as a farm labourer while he was studying for a masters, and this combination of studies and his work led him to realise that there was a disconnect between people and the land they were working. So, when he returned to the family farm in Stellenbosch, Uitzicht, overlooking False Bay, he brought with him transformative ideas on farming and humanity’s role in the natural environment.

This is the only Demeter certified, organic and biodynamically farmed wine farm in South Africa. Johan’s approach encompasses regenerative, holistic farming practices that prioritise soil health and sustainability.
