Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, often referred to as Pichon-Lalande to separate it from its rival Pichon-Baron, is one of Pauillac’s most significant ‘super seconds’. The illustrious Second Growth backs onto the vineyards of Château Latour and shares a similar climate, aspect and soils as the First Growth, and makes a wine which rivals (or sometimes exceeds) that of its loftier neighbours. Once part of a much larger estate, Château Pichon-Longueville, the land was split between the children of Baron Joseph de Pichon-Longueville. One half became Pichon-Baron and the other, Comtesse de Lalande. Pichon-Lalande is now owned by the Rouzoud Family, who also own the Champagne house, Louis Roederer, and the estate saw a new cellar completed in 2016.
