Château Langoa-Barton is a Third Growth St-Julien. It has been owned by the Anglo-Irish Barton family since the 18th century when Hugh Barton purchased Langoa, plus a parcel of vines next door, which became Château Léoville-Barton. Anthony Barton heads the estate today, alongside his daughter Lilian Barton-Sartorius, and grandson Damien: the long family history is part of Langoa’s enduring charm. The blend is dominated by hand-harvested Cabernet Sauvignon, sees a higher proportion of Merlot than Léoville-Barton and a touch of Cabernet Franc, while the gravel-rich soils and cooling waters of the Gironde contribute to its silky, elegant appeal and ability to age gracefully. In our opinion, it’s one of the best value Cru Classé estates.
