Domaine Garon is a family-run winery based in the heart of the Côte-Rôtie. Brothers Kévin and Fabien are at the helm. Although they are not yet certified organic, they work in that vein, and almost all the work in the vineyard is done by hand or by horse. Gentle extractions, long macerations and ageing in a mix of new and older French oak draw out the rich complexity of their wines. The family’s name is one of the oldest in the region, dating back to 1475, but it wasn’t until 1982 that the Garon family started cultivating the neglected vines growing on their land. They released their first cuvée in 1995 and haven’t looked back. Today, Kévin and Fabien farm around seven hectares. Their prime vineyards are in the Côte-Rôtie, with three top Syrah cuvées coming from the granite soils of the Côte Blonde and one from the white schist soils of the Côte Brune and their wines embody the elegance and structure of the Northern Rhône.
It wasn't bad for the vineyards to rest a hundred years between plantings.
