When Louis Roederer inherited the eponymous Champagne house from his uncle in 1833, he could scarcely have imagined the success his house would achieve. By the mid 19th century, the house had acquired 15 hectares of Grand Cru vineyards and rather than buy in the grapes, focused on extracting the finest quality from each parcel. By 1886, Louis Roederer's reputation had crossed borders, and the champagne was sought after in the United States and Russia, where it had caught the attention of Tsar Alexandre II. An exclusive champagne was created, a prestige cuvée known as Cristal, made in limited quantities and only in the finest vintages. It is a Champagne which continues to spark high demand and even higher prices to this day. The estate covers 240 hectares and over 400 distinct parcels to create the perfect blends every year which are aged in large oak casks until they are deemed ready for use. Unusually, Roederer also produce a small amount of single vineyard still wine dedicated to Camille Roederer who was at the helm of the great estate from 1932 to 1975.
