Castello di Verduno
Winemaker Mario is fortunate to work with the grapes from top spots Monvigliero in Verduno in the Barolo zone and Rabaja in Barbaresco. He works with the owners, the Burlotto family, who bought the castle in 1909, carrying on a tradition of winemaking dating to 1838, when the King of Savoy owned the castle. They promote wine made traditionally, with long fermentations, use of old Slavonian oak casks and ample ageing. They’ve also taken the initiative to work with Pelaverga, a rare native grape.
