Southern Rhône Varieties & Blends - Red & White
Varieties such as Grenache Noir, Grenache Blanc, and Cinsault are coming into the spotlight with beautifully pure, finessed styles. Chris William’s The Foundry Grenache Blanc 2022 is the finest example of this wine we have tasted to date, while the Grenache wines from David & Nadia have an intellectual, yet also irresistible quality to them. The old vine Cinsault of the Cape is the stuff of legend - most famous from the small plot of ancient vines farmed by Chris and Andrea Mullineux at Leeu Passant.
Grenache-based blends with a touch of Syrah create inspiring Southern-Rhône styled wines - none more so than Reenen Borman’s Kottabos Red Blend. White varieties such as Roussanne and Clairette Blanche blended with Grenache Blanc are producing some of the most delicious, aromatic and textural wines of the Cape, such as Pieter Walser’s Orbitofrontal Cortex from Blank Bottle.
