Châteauneuf-du-Pape & Gigondas

A powerful, generous white made in very limited quantities. Lemon, dried apricots, pear and honey on the nose with hints of beeswax. A full and complex palate, mostly citrus fruits and touches of mineral and hazelnut.

The 2024 Châteauneuf du Pape Vin de la Solitude Blanc is a blend of 50% Clairette, 20% Roussanne, 20% Grenache Blanc, and 10% other permitted varieties. It was vinified and aged for 10 months in neutral barrels. Medium gold in color, it offers aromas of Grand Cru white, Burgundy-style reduction, ripe orchard fruits, toasted nuts, crushed stone, and floral notes. This is a stunning wine, medium-bodied with a pure, silky mouthfeel, vibrant yet seamlessly integrated acidity, and a refined, layered finish that is exceptionally complex.

Like Le Claux, Hominis Fides was mentioned for the first time in 1902. It is therefore one of Saint Cosme’s oldest vineyards. Formed of sandy limestone soils, the soils here have high limestone content. The combination of sandy soils and Grenache yields a uniquely textured palate and tannin profile. Hominis Fides reveals a fusion of power and softness in what is a profound, enigmatic wine.

After spending twelve months maturating in French oak barriques (15% new, 50% 1-4year-old) 35% in concrete tanks, this exquisite Gigondas provides depth, mellowness and a saline freshness offering nuances of strawberry, violet, iodine and liquorice and an everlasting finish.

Le Poste is the vineyard surrounding Saint Cosme chapel. Formed of four terraces, three planted to Grenache and one to Clairette. The vineyard was replanted by Henri Barruol in 1963. Formed of limestone marl from the Tortonian (as commonly found in the region of Alba, in the Piedmont), Le Poste is the only example of this soil in the Rhone Valley which explains the extraordinary character of the wines that grow there. Le Poste always produces the most feminine wines on the estate.

From the Latin ‘Clausum’, this 1.8- hectare vineyard, mentioned in the first vineyard land registry records of 1902, was due to be pulled out in 1914. Luckily the vineyard is still here today, which is extremely fortunate. Clay and limestone marl soils produces the estate’s most ‘Burgundy-style’ Gigondas with hallmark finesse and sour cherry aromas.

From a relatively sandy soil which makes a lighter wine than the more stony Crau plateau, the Piedlong is distinctly floral with deliciously ripe red fruits, pure and long with fine tannins to give balance and great elegance. It is saline and refined, with a super-smooth finish.

Intense, rich aromas of sour cherry conserve and ripe damson plum. Olives and garrigue add complexity alongside a black pepper and meaty spice. A classy and rounded palate with delicate, although massive, tannins and an exciting chilli heat on the finish.

The Cornelia Constanza 2023, is a Grenache lover’s ultimate expression. Sourced from 100-year-old Grenache vines in the La Crau lieu-dit, the grapes were partially destemmed, vinified in concrete, and aged for 15 months in a mix of 40% foudre, 30% new French oak, and 30% concrete. The wine showcases a medium ruby color and vibrant aromas of blackberries and black raspberries, layered with cocoa, cardamom, and Sichuan pepper. Medium to full-bodied, it’s impeccably balanced, offering a refined mouthfeel with ripe, velvety tannins and a lasting finish. Only 3,000 bottles were produced.

Awarded 93-95 Pts by Nicolas Greinacher, the 2023 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Centenaire is an intricately detailed blend of 95% Grenache and 5% Mourvèdre. The wine reveals rosewater, strawberry compote, licorice and garrigue herbs. Seductive and forward, the 2023 is distinctively refined and checks out with a focused finale. Only 4,000 bottles were produced.

With only 2,800 bottles produced, the Châteauneuf du Pape Vin de la Solitude comes from the La Solitude lieu-dit, with 50% galets roulés and 50% sandy soils. The blend includes 25% Grenache, 22% Syrah, 20% Mourvèdre, 20% Counoise, 7% Cinsault, 2% Clairette Rose, and 4% other permitted varieties. It was vinified using whole clusters and aged for 15 months in neutral barrels. The wine reveals bold aromas of black cherries, black olives, roasted garrigue, and thyme, rosemary and oregano, creating a complex, rustic character. Medium to full-bodied, it boasts exceptional length.

The first vintage vinified in the new cellar, the 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape Centenaire is based on 90% Grenache and 10% Syrah. 100% destemmed and aged 24 months in stainless steel. It offers gorgeous blackberries, kirsch liqueur, roasted garrigue, and spice on the nose. Medium to full-bodied, ripe, and concentrated, it has a gorgeous long finish. The 2022 will benefit from further ageing and will evolve beautifully over the following two decades.

With only 1,200 bottles produced, the Cuvée Réserve Secrète 2019 is a "giant Châteauneuf that retains its vibrancy and lift despite its immense concentration and powerful tannin structure," as described by James Suckling. A blend of 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah from organically grown grapes, it offers intense dark fruit aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant, and subtle empyreumatic notes. On the palate, the wine is dense and beautifully integrates flavors of cherry and cedar, leading to an intense, lingering finish that goes on and on. Aged for 18 months in barrel and another year in foudre, it’s a wine of remarkable depth and complexity.
