One of the pioneers of the modern Greek wine revolution Gaia Estate was established in 1994 by Greek winemakers Leon Karatsalos and Yiannis Paraskevopoulos. An appetising and vivid rosé with an intense and aromatic profile, Agiorgitiko (a fragrant red wine grape native to Greece's Peloponnese Peninsula) wavers between delicate floral notes of rose petals and fruity flavours of pomegranate and strawberry. Vibrantly fresh with a deliciously refreshing finish, it is the perfect aperitif wine, but also paired with light summer dishes or Asian cuisine.

This is an impressive malbec from Belasco de Boquedano. On the nose notes of violets, pure berry fruit, and a hint of crushed herbs. There’s lovely freshness on the palate, here, with a lick of oak spice, and silky, enveloping tannins. Beautifully balanced, and absolutely delicious.

A beautiful expression of Tannat, with rich, concentrated black fruit and a firm structure. The tannins are bold but balanced by fresh acidity and masses of complex flavours of vanilla, coffee, chocolate and fig.

This comes from Assyrtiko vines with an average age of 180 years old, and is an impossibly delicious white from Matthew Argyros. Notes of sea spray, fennel and candied lemon on the nose, while the palate is so textured, and so saline. Incredibly long and focussed, this is a real delight. Not to be missed.

Known locally as Rizling Rýnsky, this Riesling displays beautiful lime and citrus aromas with a steely quality that is evident on the nose and palate. There is an attractive waxy texture and ginger spice note on the palate that gives a breadth and additional concentration, with a brisk acidity that balances the wine elegantly.

This, from the impressive 2016 vintage, is gorgeous. It is a blend of Furmint and Hárslevelű , the two greatest grape varieties of Tokaji. There’s tropical fruit, apricots, honeysuckle, and so much spice. And the sweetness is wonderfully balanced with bright acidity, and a minerality that comes from the volcanic soils of the Tokaji region.

The 2019 Seña is a vibrant, ripe, yet incredibly refined red from this iconic estate. A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Malbec, 15% Carmenère, and 4% Petit Verdot, it shows refinement of tannins, poise, and a long and stony finish. There’s tons of energy here, and a slightly smoky finish. This is quintessentially Chilean, but with real poise.

A truly beautiful Malbec made from vines that are over 100 years old. The elevation of their vineyard gives incredible almost-minty, floral freshness to the wine, alongside dense blackberry, damson and blueberry fruit. There is subtle spiciness from a year in French oak and a wilder savoury, herbal character too.

The Petite Arvine is intense and savoury. There’s peaches here, and plenty of savoury spice, with notes of fresh ginger and a long and textured finish. Very saline on the finish: makes you reach for another glass.

In 1986,Viña Concha y Toro decided to produce a premium wine that would to help position Chile as a producer of high-quality wines. The objective was not only to produce the finest red wine possible from Chile, but also to create a wine that reflected the unique terroir of the Alto Maipo Valley. Since its inaugural vintage, it has earned a noteworthy reputation as one of the world’s finest Cabernet Sauvignons. The grapes are carefully selected from different old vine blocks of the highly regarded Puente Alto vineyard, located in the foothills of the majestic Andes mountain range. “Don Melchor is a blend of the expressions of each of its blocks… by joining them together we achieve a better, more complete, more complex wine that reflects the personality of the Puente Alto vineyard”, explains winemaker Enrique Tirado. Don Melchor is one of the great examples of top quality Cabernet Sauvignon from this prized corner of the New World.

The 2008 Don Melchor is a blend of 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Cabernet Franc that is aged for 15 months in French oak. Crisp, precise and attractive aromas of cassis, black cherry and dark plum are supported by rich mocha and toasty oak. There are fine, grippy tannins enswathed in juicy blackberry fruit, accompanied by a subtle hint of iodine and black olive, leading to a freshly spiced finish. This is a lovely, focused wine of great weight and depth that will be drinking well into 2020 and beyond.

The classically styled 2008 is the epitome of Musar’s traditional and elegant personality. Gorgeous red and black fruits with a juicy core thanks to optimum ripeness, with coffee and tobacco notes and a delicious, delicately intertwined structure.

A brilliant contemporary Malbec from the pioneering and thoughtful Altos Las Hormigas. The winery was established in 1995 by two Italians, and in 2012 they worked with Pedro Parra to identify top sites for Malbec in the Mendoza area, and eschewed new oak for larger, older casks and concrete tanks for maturation. This, from the Terroir series, is focused on expressing the purity and elegance of a single site in Luján de Cuyo, the traditional place for Mendoza wine production. They harvest by hand, and use gravity to process the grapes into small concrete tanks where they are fermented with wild yeasts, and then spend 18 months before resting in bottle for six further months. It's a single parcel Malbec and has grippy, rounded tannins, minty, limestone freshness and layers of bramble fruit and crunchy red cherry.

Very primary at the moment on the nose, with dark fruits, violet notes, and a sprinkling of well-integrated sweet fruit. In the mouth the power builds, but the thread of freshness ensures a weightless quality. With excellent acidity, fine-grained tannins, and intensity of flavour, the 2013 Caro has all the characteristics required for a long life ahead.

“The 2012 Malbec Catena Zapata Nicasia Vineyard feels fresher and more harmonious than the 2011, when in reality the vintage character is the opposite. It is sourced from the vineyard that names the wine and that is located in Altamira. The Malbec grapes fermented in open barrels and cement vats with 15% whole-cluster Cabernet Franc. There is one extra level of precision and harmony here. It has an elegant nose and the palate almost reflects the tension in the skin of the grapes with its a velvety texture and great acidity. Les Hauts de Pierre is the pinnacle of Blaise’s production. It comes from a single parcel of old vine Chasselas, and is powerful, textured, and intense, almost reminiscent of top Burgundy. This 2019 is a little closed, but with texture and purity on the palate, it points to a long life ahead. The salinity and leesy complexity on the palate lasts an age, with notes of citrus and more savoury elements unfurling over time: this is a remarkable Swiss white.

One of the most celebrated and complex whites from South America. Pithy, mineral and incredibly intense. Elegant and flinty with a long finish.

The Petit Clos is the second wine of Clos Apalta, but undergoes the same precise winemaking as the Grand Vin, with a little less new oak, making it a more approachable but no-less-delicious example from Chile's Colchagua valley. 40% Cabernet gives this excellent structure, with a silky texture and impressive depth of flavour. It's a wine that far outperforms its price point.

Catena and the Rothschilds continue to show what can be achieved in Mendoza. The 2015 Caro is superb: blackberries and plums, with notes of fresh herbs and smoke. It’s beautifully balanced, with ripe tannins and a freshness that gives a touch of salinity. Already impressive, and there’s clearly a long life ahead of this.

Quite a powerful style of Assyrtiko, this shows a wonderfully pure mineral structure underpinned with a wave of vervy acidity. Very detailed texture with white grapefruit, white flowers and some hints of stone fruits come through on the palate. So pure and refreshing this has a clean saline lift on the finish.

The 2016 Caro has notes of wild violets, fresh herbs, and crunchy blackcurrents, alondside a remarkable sense of poise and energy. The finish is long and mineral. It's no surprise that this wine is so highly prized every year.

This is one of the best Malbecs we’ve come across, and the 2012 delivers in spades. Now at 6 and a half years old, it’s absolutely delicious, with notes of prune and ripe plum, a hint of spice, and fine acidity on the finish. At this price, it’s simply remarkable.

“The 2009 Malbec Argentino is a blend of the vineyards of Adrianna and Nicasia and is 20% whole cluster and 80% whole berry fruit. It has a more opulent bouquet than the individual blends, with dark cherries, iodine, minerals and blueberry that are all beautifully defined. Lebanon’s most famous wine, Chateau Musar 2015 is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault and Carignan from old vines in the Beeka Valley. 2015 was an incredibly challenging vintage that saw them lose over 65% of their crop, but the quality in undeniable. Heady and floral with red fruit on the nose. Exotic spice, earthy, leathery complexity developing in the background giving the wine its classic Musar character.

Rich and spicy with fine-grained tannnis and refreshing acidity. This has ripe blackcurrant and black plum on the nose and palate, with grainy cedar, subtle vanilla and hazlenut flavours as the palate continues. The finish lasts for minutes with an elegant, savoury lift.

The 2016 old vine Carignan from Lapostolle is pure and elegant, with crunchy fruit and wonderful finesse. There's notes of cranberry and crunchy darker berries, with a granite edge and a hint of spice on the finish. Brilliantly balanced. This is a bargain at this price.

Caro is the Argentina project for the Rothschilds of Chateau Lafite, along with the pioneering Catena family. This vintage is rich and ripe, with cassic, plum, as well as developing black truffle and black pepper. It retains some chalky freshness which cuts through the natural richness of the vintage.

The 2018 vintage of Caro is heralded as the best to come from this pioneering collaboration between the Rothschilds of Bordeaux and Catena of Argentina. Made mostly from Malbec, with 24% Cabernet Sauvignon to provide backbone and linear tannins. Rich, fruitcake aromas with blueberry notes providing beautiful aromatic lift. Mineral freshness and sweet spice add complexity and there is a silkiness to the wine that will develop with time in bottle.

The 2017 Caro is a really impressive, structured wine. Dark and intense, with lots of grippy tannins and a very fine finish, this will be brilliant in a few years. The best yet?

The Silex Blanc demonstrates Ben’s desire to produce a wine that is different to the typical English style. In 2022 the blend comprises Pinot Noir (50%), Pinot Blanc (40%) and Chardonnay (10%), varieties that were previously considered difficult to grow and ripen in the UK’s climate. But modern approaches and knowledge have shown that excellent, high-quality wines can be made and Silex has attracted a reputation for being one of these. The grapes were gently whole bunch pressed, with only the finest portion of juice used, resulting in a very refined fruit expression. The juice was then fermented in old oak barrels sourced from a winemaker friend of Ben in Burgundy, going through full malolactic fermentation to lend softness. It was then matured for 9 months, a third each in amphorae, stainless steel and 3 year old oak. This is a brilliant English dry white with beautiful elegance, balance and complexity. Bright and vibrant on the nose with apricot, lemon peel and honeysuckle notes. The palate has a racy, slightly tropical and stone fruit core, with excellent acidity and texture. Burgundian character with plenty of English charm.

Château Musar is always one of the fine wine world’s most distinctive and unique bottlings: something you realise from the moment you bring the glass close to your nose. With notes of dried cherries and mature red fruits, and so much exotic spice, it’s a hedonistic, opulent bouquet. The palate is structured yet fine, with grippy, grainy tannins that coat the mouth, and a fine thread of vibrant acidity. Yet again, this is a delicious wine, from this legendary Lebanese producer.

This Riesling and Furmint blend is super focused and delivers lemon citrus, jasmine and steely notes. The core has a zesty acidity and is tightly wound, demonstrating excellent concentration.

Les Murets comes from the commune of Villette. It’s a delicate, elegant expression of Chasselas: the perfect introduction to the grape. From sandy, chalky soils, it’s a mineral, floral wine, ideal with lighter dishes. Notes of rose petal and watermelon, and a lovely savoury lift on the finish. Very good value.

Classified First Growth, Disznóko is one of the greatest single vineyards of Tokaj-Hegyalja. Under the leadership of AXA Millésimes since 1992 (owner of legendary estates such as Château Pichon Longueville, Château Suduiraut and Quinta do Noval), Disznóko combines state of the art technology with age-old local tradition. Their exclusive Kapi is a super premium 6 Puttonyos produced in very limited quantities from a tiny parcel of vines and only in exceptional vintages.

This is a sublime sweet wine that has a wonderfully complex bouquet of acacia honey, citrus peel, raisins, quince and dried apricots. On the palate, sweet Seville marmalade provides a rich and intense core supported by exotic spice, fig, clove and a hint of marzipan. Sweet, rich with a crisp, zesty acidity and a clean yet sumptuous texture. Liquid gold.

Large white stones in a small plot of the Adrianna vineyard gives this Cuvée its name. An almost herbal note on the nose, driven by richness but with real lift and elegance. The palate is ripe and lush: concentration was given in 2012 by tiny yields, whilst a long growing season has locked in flawless acidity. With time in the bottle this could be mind-blowing.

Made largely from Cabernet Sauvignon with some Cinsault and Syrah, ripeness is a hallmark of Musar. Sinewy yet mellow. A striking wine of real character.

The 2018 Rhu is 80% Syrah, 12% Petite Sirah and 8% Garnacha. It's aged in foudres for 32 months, and is 90% whole bunch. It's elegant and nuanced with subtle complexity and lifted herbal notes. Grown on granite soils, it has the character of Northern Rhone with the warmth of the new world. Around 9000 bottles are produced each vintage.

Fragrant with fresh berry fruit and a hint of subtle florality on the nose, the palate has layers of darker fruit. Blackberry and blueberry notes meld with complex notes of cedarwood, store cupboard spice and pipe smoke. The tannins are incredibly fine and very ripe, integrating beautifully with the rich core of fruit. The cooler climate of the vineyard is however expressed in a lovely vein of freshness that runs throughout, lifting the wine and carrying through to the finish.

River Malbec comes from an old dry creek that runs through the Adrianna Vineyard. The rocky soils create an extra generosity and density to the black fruit flavours here, along with some rosemary, dark chocolate and violet aromas. This is structured, intense with pure fruit and chalky freshness.

This Chardonnay comes from vineyards at 1,400 metres above sea level, and is a taut, precise, yet generous and textured wine. There’s lemon oil and acacia blossom, and a wonderfully pure, focussed finish. A simply brilliant Chardonnay, from one of South America’s best.

A groundbreaking wine from the Himalayas, grown at between 2100 and 2600 metres on the mountainsides flanking the Mekong River. Vibrant purple in the glass with dark, brooding aromas on the nose. Full of cassis, kirsch and fresh berry fruit. Velvet texture with vanilla and toasty aromas. The tannins are fine and abundant, with cool, fresh acidity and a mineral finish.

This Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot blend displays beautiful bramble, dark plum and liqourice notes, combined with attractive garrigue aromas. The wine’s savoury profile adds layers of complexity, that is thanks in part to the wine’s ageing in French oak barrels for 14 months, as well as its lengthy time in bottle.

The 2015 Sena is a knockout wine. There’s a delicacy on the nose, with purity to the fruit character of mulberries, crunchy cranberries and fresh blackcurrents. Hints of mint and violet support the fruit, with a beautiful fine, supple tannic structure and lacy acidity providing freshness and length. This is surely one of the finest Chilean wines ever produced.

The Cornalin is floral, delicate, and a brilliant example of a mountain red. Notes of wild herbs and very pure morello cherry fruit make this a brilliant match for charcuterie, and other mountain fare.

This is a brilliant rose from the spectacular other-worldly Unesco World Heritage site of Meteora (recently featured on BBC‘s Race Across the World). An alluring pale pink Provence rosé colour. An explosion of blood orange and citrus fruit on the nose, mingling with strawberries and rose petals. The flavours surge through to a long intense glacial finish. This is a rosé with real character but immense drinkability and its brilliant with food too. Try with any Mediterranean fare - this would be great paired with a tropical fruit laden ceviche. An Assyrtiko that is mostly vinified and aged in stainless steel although with a small part in concrete. There are aromas of chamomile, white grapefruit and ocean breeze. The palate is focused and linear yet with plenty of charm with a lemon oil and verbena note that is intriguing and delicious.
