Christmas Port

Expect a deep ruby colour in the glass with intense ripe fruit aromas of plums, redcurrants, raisins with liquorice and clove spice. Wild flowers are noticeable on the palate combined with subtle savoury spice notes and a breadth that has come from the 6 years ageing. Tannins are present but incredibly well integrated and with an attractive suppleness.

As always, Fonseca has produced a profoundly dark port that exhibits deep concentration and density on both nose and palate. Grippy tannins are overlaid by rich, sumptuous, luxurious black fruits. Chocolate and herb notes add complexity to a fresh, lavishly fruity palate. Very long and complex. Fine quality.

This limited edition, very rare Tawny port is so complex and intense made up of wines up to 90 years old. Coffee, dark chocolate, clove, black pepper and leather combine with dried blood orange. The core is vibrant and the tannins are extremely well resolved. The length is exceptionally long.

Wonderful perfume and elegance on the nose, swirling flowers, cherries, blackberries and chocolate, too. Wonderful length, drive and beautiful density. Love the purity here - so fine and so so long. Impressive and delicate yet rich at the same time.

With only one thousand cases produced, the 2012 Quinta do Noval is sure to be in extremely high demand – and rightly so! A dense, classic port, with a wealth of ripe fruit and a lingering, spicy finish, the wonderfully rich, sumptuous mouthfeel is perfectly balanced by fantastic acidity. From a simply outstanding producer, with a uniquely vineyard-focussed outlook, this is exactly what Port should be.
