Hungarian Wine

Whilst Hungary consists of 22 different wine regions, one name jumps from the list; Tokaj (pronounced Tok-ay). With warm autumns and morning mists, conditions are perfect for the formation of Botrytis Cinerea, the noble rot that creates some of the world’s greatest sweet wines, here known as Aszú. Under communism Hungary’s wine production was state monopolised, but with the emergence of independent producers since 1990, Hungary’s Tokaji has rightfully retaken its place as a legendary sweet wine.
