*those wines only available in bond will be available for delivery in early December.
Expect a deep ruby colour in the glass with intense ripe fruit aromas of plums, redcurrants, raisins with liquorice and clove spice. Wild flowers are noticeable on the palate combined with subtle savoury spice notes and a breadth that has come from the 6 years ageing. Tannins are present but incredibly well integrated and with an attractive suppleness.
This is quite rightly Sancerre’s most celebrated site. It's a dramatic slope of Kimmeridgian terres blanches in Chavignol that wraps around the hillside and dips down into the commune of Verdigny, where Luc’s parcel lies. It is a truly magnificent and ageworthy example of Sancerre. The balance of power, racy acidity, and fruit length in this wine are simply captivating. Deep and layered. As ever, don't be afraid to cellar this, it will only improve.
If you are looking for South Africa’s answer to top white Burgundy, look no further. With a little flintiness to start, the nose reveals flavours of orange blossom, white peach and quince. Real tension through the palate with a bright crystalline core, the finish is focused and effortlessly long.
Next to the Olivier Leflaive wines of Puligny, this Meursault village is weighted and structured, with satisfying depth and tension. It’s ample, without being cloying or heavy. The vineyard of Vireuils sits tucked up at the top of the hill, on the border with neighbouring Auxey-Duresses. Its cool hilltop position helps the wine retain a terrific mineral drive, and 50-year-old vines produce concentration and savoury length.
The 2020 Rieussec is delicious. Full of layers of zesty citrus, fresh mandarin, peach, honeysuckle and white flowers, as well as baking spices and a hint of marmalade. Rich, textural but refreshing and lifted on the finish. Each bottle has a distinctive resealable cork closure.
A Champagne of great finesse and elegance from the Chardonnay and a lovely rich character and structure from the Pinot Noir. The 2016 is a wonderfully fresh and expressive vintage.
Beautifully mature showing some dried coconut, dill and dried tobacco notes. There is a wonderful balance of sweet cherry fruit, dried tomato with wild herbs. This is a subtle, medium bodied wine with a lot of life to it, showing intriguing savoury complexity.
This is a Crozes-Hermitage from granitic soils. It is bold and unmistakably Syrah with notes of pepper, roast beef, black cherry fruit and graphite. There is wonderful intensity to the wine with layers of complexity with flavours of violets, tapenade, and a little liquorice root. Drinking perfectly now, it is a wine of real class.
Château Batailley 2016 speaks very clearly of its Pauillac pedigree. Opening with brooding cassis fruit and accents of graphite it is a restrained and artistocratic wine. Flavours of cedar and cocoa nib lift from the core of dark hedgerow fruit, with sculpted, sinewy tannins. It is a wine of intensity and shows layers of complexity. A real standout from this Fifth Growth estate.
A superbly elegant and intense Chianti Classico Riserva from this much-lauded vintage, the wine opens with beautiful aromatics of violets, wild herbs and hedgerow fruit. There is a sleekness and elegance through the palate with a core of wild cherry, a little white pepper and a sense of salinity behind the fruit. The tannins finely frame the fruit with a lovely tension and the finish builds through the palate with accents of raspberry and liquorice.
