Domaine Arlaud
2024 Vosne-Romanée Aux Réas, Cyprien Arlaud Dry | Red | Still

This is one of the parcels that Cyprien and his team farm organically all year round and harvest themselves, under the négociant label. It is an excellent village lieu-dit at the southern end of Vosne, which a number of growers choose to bottle separately. It shows typical Vosne energy and power, with a bright length, and plenty in reserve.

2024 Morey-St-Denis 1er Cru Aux Cheseaux, Domaine Arlaud Dry | Red | Still

This vineyard is at the north end of the village, on the border with grand cru, Mazoyères-Chambertin. The soils are high in limestone, and produce a wine that is rich in dark wild berries and clove spice, with a lean and persistent freshness.

Young: 2028 - 2038
2024 Chambolle-Musigny, Domaine Arlaud Dry | Red | Still

This comes from various parcels the domaine owns around the village, mostly located on the Morey side. It shows a certain austerity, mingled with Chambolle’s signature texture: silky, dense, and refined.

This comes from the very highest point of Mazoyères-Chambertin, which can also be labelled as Charmes-Chambertin. It has sensational volume with a crystalline purity driving through the finish.

2024 Bourgogne Roncevie, Domaine Arlaud Dry | Red | Still

Cyprien makes two Bourgognes, and this is the one that comes from the domaine’s single parcel which lies just beyond the village boundary of Gevrey-Chambertin, but a stone’s throw from the village’s grands crus. It is a fairly serious Bourgogne, with an expressive, chewy core to it, offering up the density of Gevrey, with the open fruit to drink well early. A graphite lift on the nose adds extra interest.

2024 Morey-St-Denis 1er Cru Les Millandes, Domaine Arlaud Dry | Red | Still

This vineyard sits just below Clos St-Denis, in the heart of the village, and offers up a deep and textured expression of Morey-St-Denis. It has an ethereal minty lift to the fruit. Good balance in its length.

2024 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Petits Monts, Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet

Dry | Red | Still

With Richebourg and Cros Parantoux as neighbours, you can expect great things from this vineyard. Amélie has five separate plots across half a hectare (although she gives some of the production back to her aunt, so there is never ever enough to meet demand). The site is so steep and inaccessible that no tractors can reach it, and all work is done by horse or hand. She’s worked hard on this cuvée, which can tend towards reduction. Switching to concrete tanks for fermentation has helped, and the wine is now meeting its full potential.

Amelie’s 0.13 ha parcel was planted in 1973, and sits up close to Clos Saint Jacques. The famously cooling wind of the Combe de Lavaut helps this parcel through the wet growing season, and the fruit it yielded is really something wonderful. This is highly accomplished.

Domaine Bruno Clair
2024 Marsannay Les Grasses Têtes, Domaine Bruno Clair Dry | Red | Still

The 2024 Grasses Têtes is amazingly composed. We were obliged to taste it after the Bonnes Mares as it was the only cuvée that had been racked in autumn 2025. It held its own with an impressive presence in the glass. It is quintessential Marsannay, and quintessential Clair. The domaine has an impressive 10 hectares in their home village of Marsannay. They bottle five separate cuvées, including this wonderful vineyard which sits at the southern end of the commune, on the slope that rises up behind the village. Its quirky name (meaning “fat heads”) refers to the large rocks that show through the surface of the clay soil. It is typically the most structured and powerful of the Clair Marsannays, with the greatest tannic charge, recalling Gevrey-Chambertin. The assiduous handling of the 2024s plays to the innate structure of the vineyard with the elegance of the vintage.

2024 Morey-Saint-Denis En La Rue De Vergy, Domaine Bruno Clair Dry | Red | Still

This remarkable village lieu-dit sits directly above Clos de Tart, Clos des Lambrays, and Bonnes Mares, and the Clair parcel is an extension of their lauded Bonnes Mares plot. It’s hard to believe this isn’t a premier cru, really. Up here there is virtually no top soil at all, and the vines plunge straight into the limestone bedrock. The wine has abundant blackberry and wild strawberry aromas, tightly-wound tannins, and a fragrant energy.

2024 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint Jacques, Domaine Bruno Clair

With a spicy, fresh structure, and a regal quality to the fruit, this is a highlight of the Clair cellar. It shows a suave power, and a cool, controlled, elegance. The Clairs are one of only five producers to share this revered premier cru, that many regard as equal to the Gevrey grands crus, which they refer to as ‘the Prince of Gevrey’. It is steep by Burgundian standards, with clay-rich soil. Just three barrels made in 2024.

2024 Chambertin Grand Cru Clos de Bèze, Domaine Bruno Clair

This is crystalline and taut, with an astonishingly long finish. Clos de Bèze is a slightly steeper and warmer site than Chambertin next door, and the potential heights of complexity and concentration it can produce are remarkable. Most of the vines were planted in 1912, with the rest in the 1970s - affectionately, still referred to as the young vines.

2024 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru, Domaine Bruno Clair
Cellar Circle Exclusive
Dry | Red | Still

This is a Bonnes Mares of distinction: it is the only part of the vineyard to fall within Morey-Saint-Denis (the rest is in Chambolle-Musigny). It is opulent and inviting on the nose, with a tender and deeply concentrated core. It is one of the most delicate iterations I’ve tasted from the Clairs, meaning it should open up in bottle ahead of previous vintages. However, its complexity and length assure me it will evolve well over time as well, so no need to rush if you can resist.

Pierre owns the last parcel of Latricières before Chambertin begins, and while attention is usually focused on his Clos de Bèze, this is quickly becoming as in-demand. It is suave, dark, and cool: somehow opulent and restrained at the same time.

This is fast becoming one of Burgundy’s most sought-after wines. The vineyard was planted in 1920, and you can feel the power of the old vines in the glass. It is intense and opulent, with plenty of spice on the nose. The palate is impeccably balanced, with vibrant acidity alongside an impressive mouthfeel. Duroché owns a sizable 1.2 hectare parcel of this premier cru, and it is arguably the cuvée that best defines the estate. There’s a coolness here, with dancing tannins and incredible purity. Lavaut balances a freshness, due to its position at the base of the Combe, with an opulence of fruit from the vineyard’s south facing aspect.

Domaine Faiveley
2024 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers, Domaine Faiveley Dry | Red | Still

Les Cazetiers is situated right alongside Clos Saint-Jacques on the Combe de Lavaux. Its easterly exposure combined with cool, elevated position make for outstanding freshness in the wines. Lovely rose petal and Maraschino cherry notes on the nose, and fresh, intense palate: voluminous, creamy density, with velvety tannins.

2024 Mercurey La Framboisière, Domaine Faiveley Dry | Red | Still

This super monopole vineyard in the Côte Chalonnaise village of Mercurey is one of the bargains of Burgundy. It’s lively and juicy, with the freshness of the vintage serving it well. There is textural, red berry-fruited, with supple tannins and a gourmand finish. Miraculously, unravaged by the mildew of 2024.

Young: 2027 - 2031
2024 Corton Clos des Cortons Faiveley Grand Cru, Domaine Faiveley Dry | Red | Still

This vineyard has been a family monopole since 1874. It is the domaine's flagship wine and one of just two Burgundian grands crus to bear the name of its owner (Romanée-Conti being the other). This is complex and fascinating, with sweet, smoky spice wrapping around concentrated red fruit, with long, mineral length.

Young: 2030 - 2044
2024 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru, Domaine Faiveley Dry | Red | Still

Mazis is the most northern of the Gevrey grands crus, and is renowned for making some of the most seductive wines amongst them. The Faiveley plot benefits from some very old vines, some of which were planted in 1930. This is elegant and seductive, with a spicy, rich, lavishness about it.

Uniquely in 2024, the family combined their two premiers crus vineyards (Chaignots and Vignerondes) with their village parcel to make one wine, so drastically small was the crop in Nuits. 2024 Bourgogne Rouge 'Les Lutenières', Georges Mugneret-Gibourg
Cellar Circle Exclusive
Dry | Red | Still

This comes from just one parcel in Vosne-Romanée, planted in 1955, and for the past few years has sported the vineyard’s name, Les Lutenières, on its label. The wines are yielding such low volumes that the domaine is in the process of replanting, uprooting one quarter of the parcel at a time. The wine has a sweet density and deep, structured fruit, with profound persistence for a Bourgogne. It will easily age for a decade, which is not something you can say of every Bourgogne.

This is one of the great Barthod cuvées, and Clément believes this year is a very good vintage for the cru: it suits a classical vintage with acidity. Ghislaine has always described it as a loyal friend - it’s always there with open arms, from youth right through to old age.

Domaine Jean Grivot
2024 Coteaux Bourguignons, Jean Grivot Dry | Red | Still

Unlike some Côteaux Bourguignons which are a blend of Gamay and Pinot Noir, this is 100% Gamay, from a parcel of very old vines the Grivots inherited via the Jayers, one of whom was married to Etienne’s father. Etienne says that Henri Jayer made him promise to never, ever rip out these vines. He has kept his word, and it is a superb start to the range.

The Grivots have a substantial single parcel in Clos de Vougeot, which is easy to spot, with its magnificent gate on the roadside. But when they only harvested 7 hectolitres per hectare, there is not much to go around this year. This reduced volume, however, has given what little wine was made an intensity and precise concentration. The small berries ripened perfectly at the end of the season, and the wines shows a finely woven texture, with both power and length. Blood orange and violets perfume the nose, with a little tobacco spice and pepper on the palate.

Domaine Michèle et Patrice Rion
2024 Nuits-St-Georges Blanc, 1er Cru Les Terres Blanche, Domaine Michèle et Patrice Rion Dry | White | Still

Although they account for a minute percentage of overall production, the white wines of Nuits-St-Georges have a proud history. Interestingly, Pinot Blanc, as well as Chardonnay, is permitted under the AOC, and this cuvée from the Rions has a little dash in the blend. It’s zesty and fragrant, with peachy stone fruit and white blossom intertwined. It’s clearly much more than a curiosity: this is an important bit of Nuits’ living history, and a delicious white which matches the calibre of the estate’s fantastic range of reds.

Maxime casually shows his Nuits village after his Vosne premier cru when you taste the full line up in his cellar: that says really quite a lot. When you taste it you understand why. This is a sensational Nuits St Georges. Most of the fruit is from the domaine’s own vineyards, with a small balance from purchased grapes. This wine is so elegant and fine, with aromatic purity and gorgeous, fluid energy. Classical Burgundy through and through. In 2024 there wasn’t enough volume to stand alone, so Maxine blended it with fruit from neighbouring Argillières and Haut Pruliers. In 2024 Maxine blended fruit from his exceptional Bons Batons vineyard with another parcel. The result is a slightly less concentrated wine than a traditional Bons Batons, but one that offers up expressive aromatics and approachable open-knit structure.

Domaine Méo-Camuzet
2024 Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits Blanc Clos Philibert, Domaine Méo-Camuzet Dry | White | Still

This vineyard is up in the hills above Vosne, and enjoys a cooler microclimate thanks to its 437m elevation. There is a tiny bit of Pinot Blanc grown amongst Chardonnay here, and the wine has a gorgeous lemon verbena zing to it: citrusy and lightly grassy, with a chalky palate.

One third of the Méo vines in this parcel were planted in 1920, and their vines reach metres deep into the soils, producing formidably concentrated fruit. The rest of the blend is made up of fruit from vines planted in the 1960s. The overall effect is of great maturity and finesse.

Domaine Ponsot
2023 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru Vieilles Vignes, Domaine Ponsot Dry | Red | Still

This is the pinnacle of the Ponsot cellar: their most famous and emblematic cuvée, and the one most demanding of time in the cellar. It comes from two parcels: the first is from the Monts Luisants part of the vineyard, which is home to both the oldest (some are over 80 years old) and youngest vines in the blend. The tannins of Monts Luisants are structural and firm, and will gain in tenderness with age. The rest comes from the original Clos de la Roche parcel in the heart of the hillside, which adds expressive fruit to the blend. Less dense on the palate, but with a lithe and silky fruit core, it brings a perfect balance to the finished wine. In all, the cuvée draws from 3.4 hectares, and is vinified in 5 separate tanks. They continue through their élevage as distinct parts, only blended towards the end before bottling.

Young: 2029 - 2049
2023 Morey-St-Denis 1er Cru Clos des Monts Luisants, Domaine Ponsot Dry | White | Still

This can proudly lay claim as the only Premier Cru Aligoté in Burgundy. It’s an unusual wine that has gained a loyal following over the years, and deservedly so, not just for its niche appeal, but also for its superb quality, texture, and freshness. 30% of the blend comes from younger vines, while 70% is drawn from the vines planted in 1911. It offers up gorgeous acidity, lively fresh fruit flavours and silky flow in its youth. With age the wine can develop a complex curry/spiced orange character not unlike an old Chenin Blanc or Riesling. A remarkable wine.

2023 Gevrey-Chambertin Cuvée de l'Abeille, Domaine Ponsot Dry | Red | Still

This is just the third vintage for this lovely Gevrey from Alexandre Abel and his team at Domaine Ponsot. It comes from a half hectare parcel in the Les Epoitures lieu-dit, not far from Petite Chapelle. It was replanted in 2014 by Laurent Ponsot before his departure, and is now producing a bright and elegant wine, with a gorgeous red cherry character, and fine lacy tannins.

2023 Morey-St-Denis Cuvée des Grives, Domaine Ponsot Dry | Red | Still

The Monts Luisants vineyard spans village, premier and grand cru (Clos de la Roche) in the commune of Morey-St-Denis. Cuvée des Grives comes from the highest part of the vineyard (around 350m), designated village level. Here, at the top of this hill, tucked just beneath the forest, is the coolest part of the vineyard, and the vines dig deep into the cool Comblanchian limestone. A mini Clos de la Roche.

Rossignol-Trapet owns two very fine parcels of this outstanding grand cru. The vines were mostly planted in the 1950s, with a small section of young vines planted in 2000, and another small section planted way back in 1919. This is such a handsome grand cru, with magnificent structure and length. It builds and builds, and offers buyers long ageing potential

2024 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Petite Chapelle, Domaine Rossignol-Trapet Dry | Red | Still

The clay soils of this well-placed parcel produce a wine of depth and roundness. Like the Etelois, there is some black fruit mingled in with the red, and an expressive, aromatic depth. The tannins provide a little more grip than the village wines, and will demand a few more years in the cellar.

2024 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes, Domaine Rossignol-Trapet Dry | Red | Still

This is one of the most complete Gevrey village wines you will find: nine parcels scattered around the village which are vinified in three parts. One part comes from the light stony soil at the bottom of the valley, giving a cool elegance; the second is a cluster of parcels in the middle of the village on clay soil, giving body and structure; the third is a group of parcels below the grands crus, giving a complexity and finesse. The vines are all aged between 45 and 85 years+, and the concentration and complexity this wine delivers for the price is hard to beat. Elegant, intricately structured with layers of concentration leading to a fine, poised finish.

2024 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru, Domaine Rossignol-Trapet
Cellar Circle Exclusive
Dry | Red | Still

Cool air comes down the valley between Morey-St-Denis and Gevrey-Chambertin, meaning Latricières is a little slower to mature than the other Gevrey grands crus. The wine shows tender, sweet red fruit on the nose, with a more serious, savoury palate. Graceful already, with some age this will take on even more depth and weight.

Young: 2030 - 2041
2024 Beaune 1er Cru Les Teurons, Domaine Rossignol-Trapet Dry | Red | Still

This is one of the handful of Côte de Beaune parcels the domaine inherited from their Rossignol roots in Volnay. Their vines sit at the very top of the cru, in the vineyard’s sweet spot between Aux Cras and Les Grèves. The red, stony soil and sunny exposition here make a silky, sweet-scented style of wine. It’s a wine that is vibrant and inviting in its youth, with plenty of depth to the fruit, slightly crunchy tannins, freshness, and a detailed, smooth length.

Young: 2027 - 2036
Domaine Stéphane Magnien
2024 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Sentiers, Domaine Stéphane Magnien Dry | Red | Still

This premier cru is one of Chambolle’s finest, right on the border with Morey, just beneath Bonnes Mares. A quarter of the vines are extremely old, having been planted in 1902, with the rest between 1950 and 1980. It shows great depth and intensity, a fine tapestry of tannins weaving through the smoky Chambolle fruit.

Faconnières is one of the great terroirs of Morey, sitting just below Clos de la Roche. The fruit is vibrant and fresh, spanning the red berry spectrum. The palate is bright and poised, with an impressive volume. I ask this every year: is this the best value premier cru red on the list?

Young: 2029 - 2040
2024 Morey-Saint-Denis Vieilles Vignes, Domaine Stéphane Magnien Dry | Red | Still

As one should expect from a Morey grower, this village wine is a firecracker. It’s a blend of two parcels, Les Congées and Clos Solon, with an average vine age of 60 years+. It has that quintessential Morey character: black fruit and spice, density and precision, with a delicately wild edge.

2024 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Les Millandes, Marchand-Tawse Dry | Red | Still

This cuvée is the main reason we started buying the wines from Marchand-Tawse. It is a winner every year. Its usual high proportion of whole-bunch (60%) is applied even in 2024, which results in a tender and delicious blackcurrant fruit core. The vineyard sits just below Clos St-Denis, and next to Faconnières, in the heart of the village.
