2022 Syrah, Boekenhoutskloof, Franschhoek Dry | Red | Still | 14%

The fruit for the Boekenhoutskloof Syrah comes 90% from the Porseleinberg farm and 10% from Goldmine. This is a spicy, nuanced Syrah with around two thirds whole bunch that was vinified in concrete before ageing in large foudres and 500 litre barrels. There are aromas of cracked pepper, roast beef, with a fleshy and rounded feel to the bramble fruit. The tannins are ripe but well defined adding tension to the finish. An excellent effort and another great Syrah from Gottfried.

Ready: 2025 - 2034
2024 Chenin Blanc, Reyneke, Stellenbosch Dry | White | Still | 13%

This old-vine Chenin is a blend of Reyneke's oldest vineyards planted in 1974 and 1976. The grapes were fermented in 500 litre amphora and a large foudre. It offers notes of ginger, quince, apricot and white peach. There is a texture here which is round but there is a flash of acid that drives through giving a real sense of salinity and purity. The finish is fresh and extremely well balanced with notes of fresh pear and honeysuckle.

Ready: 2025 - 2038
2023 Syrah, Reyneke, Stellenbosch Dry | Red | Still | 13.5%

This Syrah from Reyneke is around a third whole bunch fermented, a third submerged cap fermented, and a third crushed and destemmed fruit. It is refined and spicy, with delicious and classic Syrah aromatics of wild herbs, lavender, black pepper and black olive. The palate is fleshy but still so elegant with juicy dark berry fruit and a peppery spice on the finish. Very classic and certainly reminds you of a young Cornas.

Ready: 2025 - 2042
2025 Polish Hill Riesling, Grosset, Clare Valley Dry | White | Still

Polish Hill is an eight-hectare vineyard planted in 1996 at 460m above sea level and one of the coolest spots in the Clare Valley. Here the grapes are tiny with thick skins, adding structure to the wine. Thanks to a warm and dry season, and biodynamic farming Jeffrey Grosset is extremely happy with the quality of the vintage despite volumes being notably reduced owing to the lack of water. Racy with electric acidity, it then broadens on the palate with complex and concentrated layers of saline minerality, spice, ripe green apple fruit and citrus flavours with a lovely texture. The finish is structured, linear and very, very long. A Grosset Riesling for the ages.

2022 Field of Fire Chardonnay, Pyramid Valley 'Botanical Collection', Canterbury Dry | White | Still

Flinty, almost lime blossom here. Lemongrass and lemon oil too. Super tension and intensity here while remaining so fresh. A wine of incredible purity, there is an explosion of limon, citrus and lemon oil on the finish, yet remaining perfectly balanced and focused. Subtle acacia and biscuit crumb notes on the finish. A serious Chardonnay.

Ready: 2025 - 2035
2022 Earth Smoke Pinot Noir, Pyramid Valley 'Botanical Collection', Canterbury Dry | Red | Still

This has a much more classic nose, red berries, wild cherry, five spice and rose petal. Blood orange, some almost ferrous note. A wine for burgundy lovers, there is plenty of intensity and a slightly savoury note of fresh earth through the finish.

Ready: 2025 - 2038
2022 Snake's Tongue Pinot Noir, Pyramid Valley 'Botanical Collection', Canterbury Dry | Red | Still

Peppery, spicy and delicious. This has notes of wild herbs, white pepper, and red cherry fruits. There is lovely tension and tender tannins that frame the wine. Very well managed.

Ready: 2025 - 2038
2022 Angel Flower Pinot Noir, Pyramid Valley 'Botanical Collection', Canterbury Dry | Red | Still

This is a wine that shows an immediate charm with ripe red berry fruited, a little pepper and dried herbs. Mid-weight and hints of some liquorice root this is a modern style that is so approachable and well defined yet with a real sense of substance on the palate.

Ready: 2025 - 2035
2022 Lion's Tooth Chardonnay, Pyramid Valley 'Botanical Collection', Canterbury Dry | White | Still

Opening with flinty notes and a touch of lemongrass this is very fine showing subtle flavours of sourdough and mandarin peel. This has a very focused, chiselled style, a Chardonnay that is beautifully saline and has a fine drive of freshness here. Excellent tension, and very well integrated oak through the finish.

Ready: 2025 - 2035
