One of Spain’s most fabled producers, with exceptional Basque cuisine
The wines of La Rioja Alta S.A. are amongst the most respected wines in the world, let alone in Spain. Since 1890 the wines made here have represented the pinnacle of traditional Rioja winemaking - complex, ageworthy and absolutely delicious wines that speak so clearly of the terroir of the region.
As well as winning vast quantities of trophies and awards over the decades, the wines of La Rioja Alta S.A. have also been firm favourites within the wine trade for just as long - offering brilliant value for money, especially when you consider the extensive amount of ageing that goes into the wines before the estate even releases them for sale. And although the estate is historic and classical, it’s far from dusty, with technological advances and winemaking expertise that has kept it at the forefront of Spanish viticulture.
We thought it was high time therefore to put on a dinner in November to showcase some of these magnificent bottles, alongside the superb Basque fare from new London hotspot Ibai, specialising in flame-cooked steaks and other delights. We will be diving into the cellars of the estate to draw some truly special bottles, including two wines ranked ‘Especial’ - denoting the highest possible quality level from an already exceptional base.
