A dinner with St Estèphe’s finest, and exceptional Cantonese cuisine

For many, there is no greater estate in St Estèphe than Château Montrose. For over 200 years the wines made here have been exemplars of Bordeaux, representing some of the most ageworthy examples from the unique St Estèphe terroir. With no First Growths in the commune, Montrose sits at the top of the tree and in many vintages produces wines that match the very best of the whole of Bordeaux.

Since 2006 Montrose has been under new ownership, and the quality of the wines has continued to rise. The Château has played host to some of the leading lights of Bordeaux winemaking, all contributing to the estate’s revered status today.

We are delighted to be hosting a dinner with Romain Bellone from the Château next month, for a detailed look at both the wines of Montrose and neighbouring Château Tronquoy-Lalande, and to gain a real understanding of the style of great St Estèphe. We will taste a wide range of wines, including the brilliant 2014 La Dame de Montrose - the second wine that managed to glean a higher score from Jancis Robinson than 2014 Lafite, in a blind tasting. Romain will also be bringing a magnificent 1995 Grand Vin straight from the cellars, to show the ageability of these great wines.

For the dinner we will be doing something truly special - and will be taking over the private dining room at Canton Blue, the new Cantonese restaurant within the recently opened Peninsula Hotel, which has generated enormous plaudits and hype since its opening was announced. Director of Wine Melody Wong has put together an unbelievable menu to pair with the wines, which we have detailed below. It promises to be an exceptional evening of fine wine and creative cuisine.
