The quintessential family-owned Grande Marque Champagne
There’s something special about Pol Roger. We’ve yet to meet a customer, in 170 years, whose face doesn’t light up at the sight of a bottle of this fabled Champagne, from their approachable Brut Réserve (the artist formerly known as ‘White Foil’ in the UK) to their famous Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill, one of the great prestige cuvées in Champagne. The blend of historic French expertise (at 175 years old they’re just a smidge older than us) with a deeply entrenched presence in British society means they have been a mainstay of wine lovers in the UK for decades.
Unusually for a Grande Marque Champagne house with this much age, they are still family-owned, and this grants them complete creative control over their winemaking. Indeed to this day the blend of Cuvée Winston Churchill remains a closely-guarded secret, though the quality can’t be questioned.
Therefore we are delighted that sixth-generation family member Martin Heidsieck will be joining us to host a private dinner at Cabotte to showcase the wines of the estate in September, offering an unrivalled insight into the workings and history of this beloved Champagne house. For dinner we will be taking over the Jeroboam room at Cabotte in the City, for a wonderful convivial atmosphere and fine food to pair alongside.
