A special evening with one of Australia’s pioneering producers
Jim Barry was a true trailblazer in wine. The first qualified Australian winemaker in the Clare Valley, he set out to demonstrate the potential the region had for superb Riesling and Shiraz. At a time when the Australian government was awarding subsidies for uprooting vines, Jim released his flagship red, The Armagh, an ultra-premium Shiraz. Today his efforts have helped put the Clare Valley on the map as one of Australia’s top winemaking terroirs, and his grandchildren Tom, Sam and Olivia continue his great work.
In September Tom Barry will be visiting London and we couldn’t miss the opportunity to hold a dinner with him and the top expressions from the estate. Starting with a selection of Rieslings, one made in collaboration with Ernie Loosen from the Mosel, we will run the gamut of the Barry family’s top reds, concluding with three vintages of the legendary Armagh.
For the dinner we are returning to what has fast become a Lay & Wheeler favourite - the private dining room at The Midland Grand, where chef Patrick Powell matches the best of classic French fare with modern techniques and twists.
Brilliant wines, excellent food and no doubt superb company. We look forward to seeing you there.
